Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with a goal to conduct research in pneumonia, febrile illness, diarrheal illness, malaria, HIV, tuberculosis and other diseases. It is in this mandate that the program has a vacancy to fill a new study for post cancer research.

 

POSITION: Research Officer MR 11 (I POSITION)

Location: 1 Position (Nairobi/Eldoret)

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Master's degree or equivalent advanced degree in Healthy Economics or Applied Economics (a PhD in Health Economics is a plus)

·         2 years’ experience working on survey design, field research
management, data collection, data management and descriptive/econometric
analysis

·         Knowledge and experience with key statistical packages including
SPSS, STATA and a good knowledge of cost analysis

 

·         Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, and strong interpersonal skills

·         Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required of all incumbents applying for position.

·         Excellent strategic thinking and writing skills

·         Ability to summarize information presented by multiple respondents

·         Strong presentation, interviewing and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to travel and work in both Nairobi and Eldoret

·         Word processing and PowerPoint skills

Proposed Responsibilities: the incumbent will work on a project to assess the value of resources required to register and report upon cases of cancer occurring in the populations of Nairobi and Eldoret (Kenya).  S/he will facilitate data collection, management, analysis, write up, and dissemination of results with respect to this study.

Terms of Reference for the consultancy: As part of their work, Research Officer/Fellow will have responsibilities including, but not limited to:

·         Participating in the modification and testing of data collection tool.

·         Working with the project team to catalog registry activities.

·         Lead the collection, management, and reporting of cost data.

·         Contribute to data analysis, write up and dissemination of results.

·         Participating in discussions with the project study team to analyse, summarize and disseminate findings
